University of Utah Reading Clinic (UURC)
Empowering Readers. Supporting Educators. Transforming Futures.
The University of Utah Reading Clinic (UURC), established by the Utah Legislature in 1999, is dedicated to helping struggling readers across Utah and enhancing literacy instruction through high-quality educator training. A service of the University of Utah’s College of Education, the UURC provides direct reading assessments and interventions for students and professional development for educators throughout the state.
Our evidence-based programs serve students from early elementary through upper grades and are tailored to each learner’s reading level and needs. From foundational instruction in First and Early Steps to more advanced interventions like Next Steps and Higher Steps, our goal is to help every student become a confident, capable reader. For students who need intensive support, we offer the Wilson Reading System, a Tier 3 program for those reading well below grade level.
Each year, UURC works directly with over 7,000 students and trains more than 850 educators through school-based practicum, workshops, and coaching. On average, students gain at least one full year of reading growth after completing 45 sessions.
Our clinic is located in Murray, Utah, but we partner with schools and families statewide. Whether you’re a parent seeking help for your child or an educator looking to strengthen your instruction, the UURC is here to support your literacy goals.
