Utah Legislature is to provide specific "direct services" to Utah educators and parents.

Welcome to the University of Utah Reading Clinic (UURC)

The University of Utah Reading Clinic was established by the Utah State Legislature in 1999 to improve literacy outcomes for struggling readers across the state. As part of the College of Education at the University of Utah, the UURC provides critical services to both educators and families through research-based reading assessment, intervention, and professional development.

Our mission is twofold: to offer direct reading support to students who need it most, and to train educators in effective, evidence-based literacy instruction. We serve over 7,000 students and 850 educators annually through a range of programs tailored to meet varying reading levels and needs.

For students, we offer intervention through structured programs such as First & Early Steps℠, Next Steps℠, and Higher Steps℠, addressing reading levels from early Grade 1 through advanced elementary. We also provide Tier 1 classroom interventions and the Wilson Reading System®, a Tier 3 program for readers who are significantly below grade level.

For educators, we offer hands-on professional development and clinical practica aligned with state-approved models, including U Steps. These training opportunities are designed to ensure that teachers can deliver impactful, individualized reading instruction in their own classrooms.

Located in Murray, Utah, our clinic continues to be a trusted statewide resource for parents, schools, and districts committed to literacy excellence. Whether your child is struggling with reading or you’re an educator seeking advanced training, the UURC is here to help.
